hmm I think of myself as paradoxical : A non vegetarian who doesnt like to kill or hurt other living things, A ceaseless romantic who sometimes thinks that relationships are just not worth gettin into since someone eventually gets hurt, A dreamer who ends up being more realistic, A pessimist who hides his optimism in pessimism & finally just another normal human being.

whats the deal with hunting seasons

Apparently November was deer hunting season, and I saw some guy with a dead buck (a male deer) on the back of his Ford truck. And even recently there was a CNN news video about some 5 year old kid shooting down a grown black bear. This link may expire soon: (http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/

I know in India also there is hunting and people have their own reasons, I am guessing the majority of them are killing animals for food and for selling them.

But here in the USA its called game hunting and people shoot down these poor LIVING creatures for no reason. I can understand that in the really old days when man was hunting with sticks and stones the thrill of a kill would have been extremely satisfying, but in the recent times they hunt with high caliber rifles, sitting hidden on some tree with all sorts of hi-tech gear.

What chance does the poor animal have, it doesn't pose any threat to them nor can it even evade them. Shooting down an animal when it didn't even harm you makes no sense to me :-((.

Isn't it cowardly to shoot something without even giving it a fair chance to survive or fight back. If they really want to hunt animals why cant they shoot them with tranquilizers ?? Man has certainly gone crazy with power.

And the parents and grand parents of that 5 year old are actually proud of what the kid did ??? Whats wrong with these people, I mean here they are encouraging a 5 year old kid to use a rifle and then they all act surprised when these kids shoot down their school friends just to make a point. ( I am sorry if I hurt the sentiments of the affected but there really is something wrong with a system that allows youngsters to use a firearm.).

I have heard a few friends at school talking about the exciting duck and geese hunting season in (i think) alabama. Once again I am struck by how excited they are to shoot down a defenseless bird with their rifles... how can they enjoy this.

How would they feel if they were hunted down with long range rifles and sniffer dogs drag their still living but fatally wounded carcasses.

The world will soon miss a large number of its species and the primary reason is the homosapien - the most destructive species to inhabit planet earth :( it sucks to realize the truth.

I am not defending nobody here. Just curious to know if you are a vegetarian? Catching fish, slaughtering turkey, cow and pig are no different from hunting. If one hunts an animal that is about to be extinct, it is a big story! However, if one slaughters something from poultry nobody cares. Aren't all lives equal, if killing a poor animal is the point? I am a non-vegeterian. Just playing Devil's advocate, BTW!

@ PRK
I knew this subject would come up. I am a non vegetarian. I am i should say a hypocrite ;-). I know if I actually see someone kill my food then I will probably not eat it, but lets just say I have successfully avoided seeing such things.
I realize this fact certainly hurts my credibility but well lets just say I didn't like the fact that they were SHOOTING down animals not for eating but for the heck of it. They actually have hunting licenses for killing polar bears.
I would rather not go into the all living things equal thing because I have been tormented by those thoughts a lot of times.

Dangit I know you vegetarians have the moral high ground on this subject :-) but well it was high time I wrote about this thing that was troubling my mind for a long time.

Isn't killing animals for game and killing animals for food, a tad bit different? One is for fun, but the other is for survival (well not completely dependent on animals per se, for the arguments' sake.) Its like comparing a soldier killing other people during war to a man killing to overcome his psychopathic needs...

@ Spookie
I absolutely have to agree with you and thats the reason i am so confounded because people in the USA hunt animals for FUN. Even more interesting is that the animal doesn't stand a chance with today's technology.
